Project 3 - Economic Futures

Project Leader:

The Economic Futures Project is developing a conceptual landscape bio-economic model and associated experimental economics platform to evaluate policy options. They are focusing on market-based instruments (MBIs) and designing economic instruments to promote landscape level biodiversity management and calibrating agent based models using data collected by hub projects in the Ecological Futures Theme.

The University of Tasmania based Economic Futures Team is led by Professor John Tisdell and includes Dr Sayed Iftekhar (Environmental Economist) and Angus Scheibner (honours student).

Policy makers and managers will have access to evaluations of the relative effectiveness of alternative economic instruments in promoting biodiversity at a landscape scales as a guide to future policies and programs. These evaluations are being conducted in regions with contrasting patterns of land use, land tenure, biodiversity values, threatening processes and management interventions.
